The government of St. Lucia has reached an agreement with the St. Lucia National Trust which it hopes will pave a new path for relations between the two organizations. This agreement seeks to resolve the issues surrounding the demolition of the Royal Jail in May 2020 and the Legal actions which followed. The Trust had protested what it said was a blatant breach of an agreement it had with the government, on the development of the Police Headquarters and the Criminal Court on upper Bridge Street in Castries. In a press release from the chambers of the attorney general issued Friday 21st April the government concedes that the demolition of the Royal Jail was a violation of the agreement with the St. Lucia National Trust. Government also has to pay the National Trust 10 thousand dollars in legal costs. The buildings were knocked down during the reign of the Allen Chastanet administration.
