Inspector Shervon Matthieu of the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF) received the Top Caribbean Crime Fighter award of a trophy and US$5,000 Monday night in Trinidad and Tobago.
The occasion was the Amalgamated Security Services Limited (ASSL) regional law enforcement awards 2023, held with the Association of Caribbean Commissioners of Police (ACCP).
In accepting the award, Inspector Matthieu, dubbed ‘The Cop Who Cares’, described it as an incredible honour that he never anticipated.
” I want to dedicate this award to all the brave individuals, both men, and women, who tirelessly work to protect and serve our communities,” Matthieu said.

” You are the true heroes, risking your lives every day to ensure the safety and security of our fellow citizens. Your unwavering dedication deserves our utmost respect and gratitude,” he declared.
Matthieu observed that crime fighting is a challenging path that requires immense courage, dedication, and sacrifice.
And he paid tribute to a remarkable team of partners, mentors, and leaders who have surrounded, guided and helped him to grow professionally and personally.
“I take great pride in being part of this noble profession that strives to make a positive impact on the world. My passion lies in upholding justice, fairness, and human rights,” Matthieu told the audience, including Saint Lucia Police Commissioner Crusita Descartes-Pelius.
In addition, he expressed a deep commitment to upholding the law, protecting the innocent, and pursuing those who seek to harm others.
He also vowed to serve with honour, integrity, and compassion while acknowledging the sacrifices associated with law enforcement.
“Every day we confront uncertainty, danger, and complex situations that demand split-second decision-making. It is our unwavering determination and commitment to justice that propels us forward. This award is a testament to the sacrifices we make and the resilience we possess as law enforcement professionals,” Matthieu stated.

Originally from Soufriere, Matthieu joined the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force in 2005.
On three occasions, the organisation voted him Sergeant of the Year.
The thirty-eight-year-old, who has written booklets and produced anti-crime videos and public awareness material, is currently attached to the CID in Castries.
