Will Levis is scheduled to make his NFL debut.
With Titans starting quarterback Ryan Tannehill likely out with a high ankle sprain, Levis is going to start Sunday’s game against the Falcons in Week 8, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported Wednesday, and be the “primary” signal-caller.
Titans coach Mike Vrabel has not publicly committed to anything other than both Levis and Malik Willis seeing action.
“I never said that Will was going to be the starter,” Vrabel told reporters on Wednesday. “Both of them will play if Ryan can’t.”
Levis, the 2023 second-round pick and one of the top QBs in the draft, is ready for whatever the day will bring.
“If my name gets called I’ll be ready to go,” Levis told reporters Wednesday. “We go the same game plan and are both preparing for the same plays. We’ll have to be ready for all of it. Everything Malik can do I can do and vice versa.”
Levis famously had to wait until Day 2 to be drafted with the No. 33 overall pick by the Titans after an embarrassing slide that saw him fall out of the first round.
He came into camp locked in a duel with Willis for the No. 2 job behind Tannehill.
During his rookie season, Willis, a third-round pick in 2022, started in three of his eight appearances, going 1-2.
He had 276 yards with a 50.8 completion rate, no touchdowns and three interceptions, adding 123 yards rushing and a touchdown.
As for the injured starter, Tannehill struggled in first six games this season, with the Titans attempting to put some polish on their 2-4 record.
Tannehill completed 62.0 percent of his passes for 1,128 yards, two touchdowns and six interceptions.
With Tannehill’s contract up at season’s end, the Titans have an opportunity to see what the future holds for them.
