Noah Syndergaard sounds really sad as Dodgers disasters pile up

Thor has lost his hammer — and pretty much everything else.

Noah Syndergaard’s brutal Dodgers start continued on Wednesday when the ex-Met allowed five runs over five innings in a 10-6 home loss to the Nationals.

Syndergaard, 30, now has a 6.54 ERA through 11 starts this season after signing a one-year, $13 million deal during the offseason.

“Trying to make big adjustments in between starts isn’t the easiest,” Syndergaard told reporters, with the Los Angeles Times describing his voice as “barely audible.”

“I would give my hypothetical first-born to be the old me again. I’ll do anything possible to get back to that. I’m expected to go out there and compete, and today I just fell behind a lot of hitters.”

Syndergaard burst onto the scene as the flame-throwing picture of confidence with the Mets in 2015.

Injuries ultimately unraveled his career in Queens with a torn torso muscle in 2017 and then Tommy John surgery before the 2020 season.

Now after a somewhat promising season split with the Angels and NL Champion Phillies, he is trying just about everything — including hypnosis — to rediscover the pitcher he once was.

“It really sucks,” said Syndergaard, whose fastball is averaging 92 mph this season — a far cry from the pitcher who consistently touched triple digits early in his career.

“Right now I just feel like I’m the weakest link on this team. I want to go out there and compete and be successful for the other guys in this clubhouse, but it’s just not working out.”

The LA Times’ Helene Elliottt suggested it is almost time to move on from the Syndergaard experiment, noting that injuries to starters Julio Urias, Dustin May and Ryan Pepiot, are the only thing saving the righty for now.

Manager Dave Roberts was non-committal when asked about plans to skip Syndergaard in the rotation with a couple of off-days coming for the Dodgers.

“Just the velocity and command are just the byproduct of when I look at video of me and video of me now and in the past, the body is moving completely different,” Syndergaard said.

“I’m trying to be as external as possible and just focused on results when I’m out there competing. Just in between, it’s not syncing up or clicking.”
