A New Hampshire man, who was living in the woods, has been found guilty of murdering an elderly couple during their hike.
Logan Clegg, 27, was convicted Monday on four counts of second-degree murder, four counts of falsifying physical evidence, and one count of a felon possessing a firearm, according to a report.
Stephen and Djeswende “Wendy” Reid were walking on a trail near their home in Concord on April 18, 2022, when Clegg shot them, according to Court TV.
Police found the couple’s bodies covered in leaves and sticks in the woods.
Witnesses said they saw a suspicious man on the trial and had heard gunshots, with each other person saying they saw Clegg carrying grocery bags, according to the outlet.
Clegg was found living in a tent near the Reids’ home and he told officers his name was Arthur Kelly. After discovering his real identity, law enforcement found he had a long criminal history in Utah, according to Court TV.
Clegg left a bottle of Code Red Mountain Dew at the campsite. Authorities searched the few stores in town that sold the red version of the drink to use surveillance footage to find their perpetrator.
Clegg also worked a McDonald’s in Concord in 2021 after years of traveling to France, Portugal, Germany, and Iceland.
He had a one-way ticket booked from New York to Berlin on Oct. 14, 2022, but he never made it as he was arrested in Vermont. Police found him with a fake passport and gun, according to WPTV.
His attorneys said he was leaving New Hampshire to hide after he violated his Utah probation.
The 27-year-old had pleaded not guilty to his crimes after his arrest, arguing that the bullet casing were placed there after the shooting.
He is expected back in court for his sentencing hearing on Dec. 15.
