Jeopardy! fans are coming after Ken Jennings after they claimed he made a mistake during Monday night’s (March 27) episode of the hit quiz show.
The questionable moment came as Jennings deemed one player’s answer wrong, but when the next contestant buzzed in with the same answer — albeit a different pronunciation — he said it was correct.
The clue read, “After the Last Supper, Jesus traveled to this garden to pray & was arrested there.” While a contestant named Kevin seemed to give the right answer — Garden of Gethsemane — he pronounced the “n” sound at the end of “Gethsemane” with more of a “d” sound.
After Jennings quickly said, “No,” he moved on to Tamara, the player who gave the correct response despite pronouncing “Gethsemane” with a soft “g” instead of a hard “g,” which is how it’s commonly said.
Jennings, who also pronounced the word with a soft “g,” replied, “Yeah, we just needed the ‘n,’ ‘Gethsemane,’ that’s correct.”
Meanwhile, fans of the show have taken to Twitter, where they called out Jennings for what they found to be an unfair ruling.
“I thought the contestant who answered The ‘Garden of Gethsemane’ was robbed of his points tonight? What did he say wrong? The contestant who got points for that question, didn’t even pronounce it right,” one wrote.
Another asked, “Hi Ken- what’s up with that Garden of Gethsemane question? I thought the contestant gave you the correct answer?”
“The garden of gethsemane is the correct answer,” a third person pointed out. “The second one was wrong like badly wrong.”
Jeopardy! is no stranger to facing backlash from its fans. Just last week, viewers slammed one contestant named Karen as “plain dumb” after she wagered a massive amount of money, costing her the entire game.
