Police warned on Wednesday night that they were conducting a controlled explosion after a suspicious package was found in the city’s north end.
Toronto Police said on the social-media site X at 5:15 p.m. that a suspicious package was being investigated in the Sheppard Ave. W.-Rivalda Rd. area and that the emergency disposal unit was on the way to the scene.

With the disposal unit on scene, police said at about 8:35 p.m. that they would be conducting a controlled explosion “shortly” and asked people stay away from the area.

Police said to consider alternate routes if travelling in the area with road closures in place at Rivalda at Sheppard, Samba Dr. at Sheppard, Abraham Welsh Rd. at Sheppard and at either end of Sheppard between Weston to Arrow Rds.
