Ex-health DG appointed USCI Healthcare Group chairman

Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, who retired as health director-general on April 21, was hailed as a national hero when the country faced the Covid-19 pandemic.

PETALING JAYA: Former health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah has been appointed as UCSI Healthcare Group chairman.

Noor Hisham will oversee the strategic direction for UCSI Hospital and other subsidiaries under UCSI Healthcare, the group said in a statement today.

“He has also been appointed as an adjunct professor at UCSI University, where he will contribute to clinical training programmes and medical research,” it said.

Noor Hisham will also serve as a visiting consultant surgeon, specialising in breast, endocrine and general surgery, at UCSI Hospital.

USCI Group CEO Siti Hamisah Tapsir said the organisation would benefit from Noor Hisham’s expertise and extensive experience in public healthcare policy.

“All of us remember Dr Noor Hisham for his towering leadership and calming presence at the height of Malaysia’s fight against Covid-19.

“He was at the forefront of our pandemic response, he led by example in times of crisis, and his track record in public service is second to none,” she said.

Noor Hisham retired on April 21 after serving the health ministry for 35 years and as director-general for 10 years.

He was regarded as a national hero when the country faced the Covid-19 pandemic.
