The Director of the Holy See Press Office informed the accredited press that “Pope Francis rested during the night.” He was referring to the night of Thursday, June 8.
Notified moreover was that the medical team attending the Holy Father stated on Friday, June 9, that the clinical picture improves progressively and the postoperative course is regular. After breakfast, the Pope began to move, spending the better part of the morning in an armchair, which enabled him to read the newspapers and begin to work again.
Towards the end of the afternoon of Friday, June 9 (Rome time), the Director of the Vatican Press Office gave another notification to the accredited press. In it he said that “The medical staff informs that the Pope’s postoperative course continues being regular and normal. The Holy Father is apyretic, the hemodynamic parameters are normal, he has exceeded the drips and has continued to nourish himself on a liquid diet. At the end of the afternoon he received the Eucharist.”
Finally, it was made known that Pope Francis is moved by the numerous messages he continues to receive; in particular, he wished to direct his thought and gratitude to the children hospitalized at present for the affection received through their drawings and messages. ”To them, as well as to the medical staff, nurses, socio-medical workers and spiritual assistants who touch pain daily with their hands, alleviating their burden, he expresses his gratitude and closeness and his prayers,” stated the note. Through his Twitter account, the Pontiff shared this message:
“My heartfelt thanks for the prayers and many messages of closeness and affection that have arrived these days. I pray for all, especially for those suffering. I ask them to continue praying for me.”
