A Coast Guard vessel collided with a fishing vessel in waters off Puerto Rico, killing one and injuring another, the US Coast Guard said Monday night.
The Coast Guard identified the person killed as Carlos Rosario, a fisherman who was on a 23-foot fishing boat called Desa Cata. His brother, Samuel Rosario Beltran, was injured. About 4 nautical miles north of Dorado, Puerto Rico, on Monday afternoon, a crash occurred between Desakata and He Winslow Griesser, a 154-foot centennial-class fast-response cutter, according to the coast. said the guard.
"We are deeply saddened by the loss of Carlos Rosario," San Juan Coast Guard commander Capt. José Diaz said in a statement. "I extend my deepest condolences to his family, friends and loved ones and wish them strength during this most difficult time." It said a "thorough" investigation into the crash would be conducted by the National Transportation Safety Board.
