In an attack that briefly shut an international airport, Russia’s defence ministry said three Ukrainian drones were shot down over Moscow early on Sunday.
Two drones were “suppressed by electronic warfare” and crashed into an office building, while one was shot down on the city’s outskirts. Nobody was injured.
“A night-time Ukrainian drone attack on Moscow damaged two office blocks. The facades of two city office towers were slightly damaged. There are no victims or injured,” Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said in a Telegram post.
“The Kyiv regime’s attempted terrorist attack with unmanned aerial vehicles on the objects in the city of Moscow was thwarted,” Russia’s defence ministry said on Telegram.
Earlier this month, drone attacks disrupted air traffic at the same airport in Moscow. Five Ukrainian drones were shot down, according to Russia, that night, which “would not be possible without the help provided to the Kyiv regime by the US and its NATO allies”.
Later, Russia claimed it had shot down an S-200 missile close to Azov after debris fell in a rural region. On Saturday, a Russian strike on Ukraine’s southern city of Zaporizhzhia claimed the lives of two people.
Five people were hurt, and at least one person was killed in a missile strike on the northeastern city of Sumi, according to the Ukrainian national police. On 29 July, a missile struck a building housing a school. Early in July, a Russian drone struck an apartment complex in the same city, leaving 21 injured and three civilians dead.
