Afghanistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs praised parts of the statement by SRSG to the United Nations Security Council meeting regarding the positive changes that have taken shape in Afghanistan over the past nearly two years.
The statement by the Special Representative of the Secretary-General (SRSG) of the UN included comprehensive information about the recent development and the critical challenges on the humanitarian situation in Afghanistan.
The improvements included effective ban on narcotics, although, cultivation, processing the trafficking drug has not been completely eradicated from Afghanistan, according the reports.
Macro-economic stability, elimination of corruption, access to education for girls in some spaces, collection of revenues, payment of salaries, significant improvement in security and efforts against Daesh are some of the key achievements by the de facto authorities of the country.
“We take note of the complexities of Afghanistan as highlighted in the statement and are committed to abide by the international norms that do not contradict the principles of Islamic law, or contravene Afghanistan’s cultural norms and our national interests. We, therefore, urge all actors to respect the peremptory norm of non-interference and cease all attempts at meddling in our internal affairs,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement said.
The statement further added that the ruling regime is fully committed to establishing security, securing borders, preventing threat emanation, ensuring access to justice, combatting drug trafficking and eliminating narcotics.
Meanwhile, the SRSG’s remarks also highlighted the gender-based restrictions the Taliban regime has imposed on women and girls, barring them from accessing education, work and public engagement.
The Taliban-run administration has failed to establish an all-inclusive government in which people from different segments of the society including ethnic groups, political factions, religious minorities and women could see them represented, the SRSG statement added.
