A man who reportedly had charas worth close to 3 crores of rupees on the international market was detained close to the Indo-Nepal border, a senior police official reported Monday.
A man travelling from the Nepal side was stopped on Sunday evening while being patrolled by a joint team of police and Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) in the Rupaidiha Police Station area of the border, according to Superintendent of Police Prashant Verma, NDTV reported.
The SP reported that the alleged smuggler had 7.25 kg of charas in his possession. According to him, the confiscated substance is estimated at $3 crore on the global market.
Raksha Ram, the man, is a resident of Bhatpurwa in the Bahraich district, according to Verma. He stated that a complaint had been filed against him under the NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) Act.
Earlier, four persons were arrested by Uttar Pradesh Police near the Nepal border.
The four persons were arrested by Uttar Pradesh police in the Sonauli area near the Indo-Nepal border and recovered heroin worth around 1.65 crore rupees.
He noted that additional investigations are ongoing after the accused were detained under the applicable provisions of the Narcotics, Drugs, and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
