India and Pakistan Exchange List of Civilian Prisoners

Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry announced that the list of 600 civilian prisoners and fishermen from both countries were exchanged simultaneously in Islamabad and New Delhi.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan on Saturday announced the exchange list of civilian prisoners between India and Pakistan took place through diplomatic channels.

According to the ministry of foreign affairs, the list of 308 Indian prisoners including 42 civilians and 266 fishermen in detention centers in Pakistan were exchanged with Indian Embassy.

Meanwhile, the list of 417 Pakistanis including 343 civilians and 74 fishermen were transferred to Pakistan Embassy in Delhi.  

Furthermore, Islamabad has asked New Delhi to release those Pakistani civilians and fishermen who have completed their sentence period.  

This comes as diplomatic relations between Pakistan and India, the two neighboring and arch-rivals have soured due to tensions in Kashmir over the past years.

Following a relative peace between the two countries, the ministry Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs had previously summoned the head of the Indian diplomatic mission in Islamabad in protest of the violation of the border ceasefire by Indian forces along the line of control in Kashmir and the killing of two Pakistani citizens.

Meanwhile, the list of prisoners between India and Pakistan has been exchanged for a second time this year.
