A group of Afghan women entrepreneurs created a local market exclusively for women in Faizabad city of northeastern Badakhshan province, aimed at improving the economic well-being of the needy families.
“More than three million Afghanis were spent to create this market, aimed at providing employment opportunities for at least 50 women,” Shuhra Tamana, a female entrepreneur said to TOLOnews.
Sakina Hamdard, another businesswoman said, “Some women do not have a breadwinner, so this is a good opportunity create jobs for such vulnerable families.”
Furthermore, some women who had come to visit the market and buy some stuff called on the de facto authorities to provide job opportunities for girls and women in this province.
Another woman said, “while coming to this bazaar for shopping, I feel quite comfortable because all the vendors are women.”
Meanwhile, commerce and industry officials of Badakhshan province said it is supporting the business activities of women in this province.
While praising the initiatives of women entrepreneurs in Badakhshan, the head of commerce and industry department of this province said, “We are hopeful that these women entrepreneurs comply to the Hijab police.”
Prior to this, women and girls who were deprived of attending schools and universities commenced their business activities in different sectors in various parts of Afghanistan.
