Afghanistan will host Pakistan for three One Day Internationals over five days in Sri Lanka just before the Asia Cup. On August 22 and 24, the first two games will be played in Hambantota, while on August 26, the third game will be played in Colombo.
“Our previous ODI assignment was a 2-1 series victory in our away tour to Bangladesh, which has boosted the team’s morale for the Pakistan series,” Afghanistan Cricket Board chairman Mirwais Ashraf said. “We are satisfied with our preparations for the Asia Cup as we have featured in multiple ODI commitments in Sri Lanka and Bangladesh recently, and playing Pakistan in Sri Lanka, will help our squad read the conditions and further prepare for the event.”
Afghanistan was the official host when the two teams played a three-match T20I series in Sharjah in March. Afghanistan won the series 2-1. In the four ODIs they have played thus far, Pakistan has never lost to Afghanistan.
The team for the series will meet on August 17 in Sri Lanka and train from August 19 to August 21.
In Sri Lanka, Pakistan recently completed a two-test series. The Lankan Premier League began on July 30 and runs until August 20. Several players, including captain Babar Azam, have stayed in Sri Lanka to compete in it.
In this format, the two teams last faced off in the 2019 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup.
