Pakistan’s Deputy Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar during a visit to Torkham land border said that Afghan travelers at the crossing point should be treated with decency, according to media sources.
Pakistani newspaper ‘The Nation’ on Thursday reported that Hina Rabbani on Wednesday visited Torkham land border.
While visiting Torkham border region between Pakistan and Afghanistan, the Deputy Foreign Minister called on relevant authorities to facilitate the movement of passengers and commercial goods between the two countries.
On the occasion of World Refugee Day, marked on June 20, several human rights organizations demanded to address the many challenges Afghan refugees faced in Pakistan.
The recent incarceration and arbitrary detention of Afghan migrants by the Pakistani police prompted widespread criticism from human rights groups and UNHCR both in Afghanistan and Pakistan respectively.
Meanwhile, Amnesty International, in its latest report on the occasion of World Refugee Day, called on Pakistani government to end the arbitrary arrests and inappropriate treatment of Afghan refugees in this country.
After the return of Taliban to power in August 2021, thousands of Afghans migrated to the neighboring countries of Pakistan and Iran fearing death threats and persecution by the Taliban.
In a separate report, Afghanistan’s Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation recently announced that more than 1.5 million Afghan refugees returned to the country in less than two years.
However, the ministry did not specify from which countries these refugees have repatriated to Afghanistan.
